This nine-week course prepares students for the documentation and compliance demands of the modern medical office. Students develop hands-on skills in electronic health records systems, including creating and navigating patient charts, registering patients, completing common medical office forms, and applying accurate data entry techniques. The course also covers the legal and ethical framework governing healthcare practice. Topics include HIPAA and confidentiality requirements, medical information disclosure, advanced healthcare directives and end-of-life planning, and an overview of U.S. health insurance systems. This course is a component of both the Medical Assistant Pre-Apprenticeship and Healthcare Office Certificate programs.
